Support for families and loved ones affected by addiction
When someone you love struggles with alcohol or drugs, it can be hard to know how to help—or how to take care of yourself. You may feel worried, angry, exhausted, or caught between supporting them and setting limits.
I’m Richard Turnham, LPC-S, LADC-S. I bring 17 years of counseling experience and extensive experience with addiction to my work with individuals, couples, and families in Tulsa and across Oklahoma.
You can get support even if your loved one is not ready
You do not have to wait for someone else to agree to treatment before seeking counseling for yourself. I work with spouses, partners, parents, and other loved ones who want help understanding their situation and deciding how to respond.
- Setting and maintaining boundaries
- Communicating without repeating the same arguments
- Understanding the effects of addiction on relationships
- Navigating trust, recovery, and difficult decisions
- Making room for your own needs and well-being
Family counseling beyond addiction
I also help families work through recurring conflict, grief, and relationship strain. We begin with your concerns and goals, discuss who should participate, and work toward clearer communication and practical changes. Sessions can involve an individual family member or multiple family members, depending on the situation.
Appointments in Tulsa and online
In-person sessions are available in Tulsa. Video sessions are available for participants physically located in Oklahoma. Current openings vary.
Ask About Family or Addiction Support
In the inquiry form, briefly describe the support you are seeking and include your availability, insurance or private-pay preference, and video or in-person preference. I’ll respond about fit and next steps. Submitting the form does not book an appointment.
